IC Information:
Name: Applejack
Fandom: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Timeline: End of season 1.
Age: Unknown, but she's likely to be in her early to mid-teens.
Appearance: As an earth pony, Applejack doesn't have any wings or horns like some of her friends do. She is slightly stronger and more built than them as well, the result of her hard work on Sweet Apple Acres. Even so, she's a very pretty pony in her own right, with a peachy-orange coat color and a straw-blonde mane and tail that are kept in ponytails with red ties. She is almost always seen with her brown Stetson hat on her head as well. Her cowgirl look is complete with her big green eyes, the freckles on her cheeks, an easy going smile, and her Cutie Mark on her left flank, which is a trio of red apples.
Abilities: Again, because AJ is an earth pony, she isn't capable of any magic or flight like Twilight Sparkle or Rainbow Dash are. However, she does have a few tricks up her hooves. AJ is the only pony in all of Equestria that is able to kick all of the apples off of trees in one go without hurting the tree. This process is called apple-bucking, and it is proof of her strong, sturdy nature and of her powerful leg abilities. She is also adept at herding, though she usually works with the help of her dog Winona. Other chores around the farm have given her a strong back and set of teeth as well. She specializes in any sort of activity done around the barn, really!
She isn't just a rough and tumble work pony, though. Applejack is capable of many graceful, agile feats such as rope jumping and lassoing. Baking and business are also on the list of her special skills. In fact, they often go hand in hand, as she is constantly keeping an eye out for ways to earn extra money to help her Granny Smith get a new hip.
Personality: Having grown up in a modest but proud 'country' lifestyle, AJ possesses many of the virtues and qualities that are taught from childhood within it. In addition to be an amiable, hospitable, and likeable pony, she is also a hard worker-- a sensible pony who isn't afraid to literally get down and dirty to finish any job she has on her hooves. Ergo she thinks practically, straight-forwardly, and smartly. She is trustworthy and dependable, relied on for help by many of her friends and neighbors for a wide variety of everyday tasks. So much so that the town of Ponyville actually gave her an award of recognition to thank her for it. She also holds the unofficial rank of second-in-command to Twilight Sparkle amongst their group of friends for it. Her pleasant personality is tempered with a stubborn streak, as well as an ambitious, determined, and (most of the time) nonjudgmental approach to all her problems. Obviously, as the inheritor of the Element of Honesty, she is honest, and isn't afraid to speak her mind.
While this makes her an excellent foil to Twilight and her other friends when they need help or advice, she has a tendency of being too blunt with her words. Having been raised the way she was, she expects everypony to treat other ponies with a respectable level of decency. If you aren't, she isn't afraid to let you know that you're stepping over the line. In the case that you manage to antagonize her into anger, a more aggressive side of her emerges-- one that is willing to butt heads with you for as long as is needed, and won't back down until everything has been resolved. This stubbornness can become a problem for her personally as well. AJ is always willing to help the ponies she knows, but being confident in her abilities and too kind to refuse anypony, she sometimes bites off more than she can chew. It makes her reluctant to admit defeat or ask for help, and one time, she almost worked herself to death before she was willing to accept help.
In the end, her honesty keeps herself honest as well. So while she may need prodding from her friends in order to recognize her faults and problems, she eventually comes to the same conclusions of her own accord, and tries to learn from them.
History: Applejack was born on her family's farm Sweet Apple Acres, located in the town of Ponyville in the land of Equestria. While her parents are absent at the time of the series, her closest family relations are noted to be her grandmother Granny Smith, her older brother Big Macintosh, and her younger sister Applebloom. AJ also seems to have a large extended family who have their own farms all across Equestria.
Growing up, though, she resented the humble farm life that her family had lived for generations. She wanted to live a live of sophistication and elegance in the big city instead. So when she was just a little filly, she left the farm to live with her aunt and uncle Orange in Fillydelphia. The world seemed so much better there, so full of glitz and glamor. For a while, it was like a dream come true. But soon the novelty of it wore off, and she found that her innate country sensibilities clashed horribly with those of upper class society. She was just too different from her relatives and their friends.
AJ was feeling incredibly homesick one day when a rainbow suddenly shot over the sky of the sunrise she was looking at. To her, it seemed to be pointing in the direction of the Sweet Apple Acres farm-- a sign for her to return home. With this encouragement in mind, she headed back to the farm and decided to never leave it again. Her revelation caused her Cutie Mark-- the symbol of her purpose in life-- to show up on her flank, and she has been managing the farm ever since.
A number of years later, a pony called Twilight Sparkle visited Ponyville, traveling from the royal city of Canterlot. As the Princess Celestia's protege, Twilight was charged with the duty of checking on the festival's preparations. But in coming to Ponyville, she also intended to warn her mentor about the possible return of Nightmare Moon-- an evil pony that the princess herself had banished to the moon with the magical Elements of Harmony for attempting to cloak all of Equestria in eternal darkness. Unfortunately, Twilight couldn't warn the princess in time before Nightmare Moon really did return. Celestia's sudden disappearance didn't help matters, and Twilight was left to her own devices to try and find a way to confront the evil mare. Or so she thought.
But Applejack and her other four friends, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash, wouldn't let her go alone. After Twilight discovered that the Elements of Harmony still might exist in the old royal palace in the Everfree Forest, they followed her into it. They came across several traps along the way, set up by Nightmare Moon to try and stop them. In one trap, Twilight was in danger of falling off a cliff, hanging only by Applejack's hooves. Applejack asked her to trust her and let go despite the danger. Her honest nature was what allowed Twilight to trust her to do so, and by allowing herself to fall in a calm manner like Applejack asked her to, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy were able to catch her easily. After the traps, the group was able to confront Nightmare Moon with the recovered Elements of Harmony, with Applejack wielding the Element of Honesty for what she did for Twilight earlier.
With Nightmare Moon defeated, Twilight was able to discover the true meaning of friendship, and decided to stay in Ponyville with Applejack and the others instead of returning to Canterlot. Applejack has been involved in plenty of shenanigans with their little group ever since. Because it isn't just the bookworm Twilight that needs to learn more things about how to be a good friend.
Roleplay Sample - Log:
Just when she thought she'd seen it all. Applejack stared at the white walls surrounding her, a deep crease settling over her forelock. At first she thought she might be at Ponyville's hospital, because there wasn't any other place she could think of that was so bland looking-- but upon further inspection of her surroundings, she realized that even the hospital's blandness wasn't this bland.
"Where in tarnation am I? And what in tarnation is this?!" The pony craned her head around to try and get a better look at her neck. "A yoke?"
But no, it wasn't anything like the leather yoke that her older brother always wore for work. It was more like...a collar. A very uncomfortable, heavy collar that she couldn't get off no matter what she did. After a good ten minutes of huffing and puffing, she finally gave up.
"Don't think I like th'idea of being collared up. T'ain't right for a pony, even a working pony like me." She blew her mane out of her eyes before straightening her Stetson on her head. "Guess'ts better fer me to take a look 'round here right now. Where even is this place? And where are the girls?" After a brief stretch of her four legs, she headed out of the door and went down the hallway to look for clues.
Roleplay Sample - Journal:
[Two green eyes are staring right into the camera. This is not a human. This is a pony.]
This doo-hickey workin' now? [She pauses, not really expecting an answer.] So I'mma guessing it kinda works like a phone so let me tell whoever is on the other side right now-- Applejack don't take kindly to being kidnapped and collared, so y'best let me outta this place or I'll buck ya into these white walls.
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?
AJ is a very tough pony, both mentally and physically. While many of the experiments will be new and potentially scarring for her, she is not the type to let something keep her down while her friends are going through the same things (if not worse). Also, as a leader type, she will struggle and fight for what she thinks is right.
Ponies, after all, need to be broken in before they accept the bit. And she doesn't like the bit one bit ;3
